My theme this week is centered around the word LIGHT.

Well what I did was as follows:

  1. Added a little fill light (5%) in Lightroom 5
  2. Increased the contrast (5%) in Lightroom 5
  3. Adjusted the clarity slightly (15%) in Lightroom 5
  4. Transfered to Photoshop cc
  5. Ran the coffee shop action (sun-kissed)
  6. Placed the flare point at the top left (50-300 zoom @ 100%)
  7. Reduced the lighter layer to 30%
  8. Increased the contrast to 75%
  9. Decreased the orange tones to 75%
  10. kk_shine, multiply @ 50% opacity
  11. Text layer and watermark added.

The pre straight out of camera shot is here below I felt like doing a more literal take on the theme too, with this Lighthouse Here is what I did to this photo:

  1. No adjustments made in Lightroom
  2. Transfered to Photoshop cc
  3. Duplicated the background, screen @ 60% opacity
  4. Created a Layer mask and took the effect of this adjustment off of the sky, with the brush opacity at 90%.
  5. Duplicated the background, hard light @ 30% opacity
  6. Created a Layer mask and took the effect of this adjustment off of the foreground, with the brush opacity at 90%.
  7. Levels adjustment to boost the whites
  8. High pass filter, hardlight & 25% opacity
  9. kk_plastersquared, multiply @ 70% opacity
  10. Watermark added.

As before the pre straight out of camera shot is here below Let me know what you think, as usual I prefer the originals, but I am having a lot of fun learning new “tricks” 🙂

Texture Tuesday: a painterly effect

I edited this photo using the techniques outlined in Kim Klassen’s video on her Beyond Layers course. It was a long editing session (for me that is!).  The task itself was to turn a photograph into a “Painterly Effect” one, by adding textures and quite a lot of layer adjustments. The original photo was taken a year ago when we were on holiday in Canada 🙂 The edit above was edited as Kim suggested, I then went on to do a paint effect in the artistic filters in Photoshop Elements to produce the shot below, which when seen larger looks more like an old painting, so I guess I achieved the “painterly effect”. I am glad I have done this as I learnt a lot, trying different blending modes, using clipping masks and a myriad of layers.

This is what the shot was like before I went on to edit another shot with a totally different subject the before and after is below. Let me know what you think?

Well what I did was as follows:

  1. Transfered to Photoshop cc (I load all my photos originally into Lightroom).
  2. I cloned out the flower at the bottom left and the petals at the bottom right.
  3. kk_plastersquared, multiply @ 100% opacity
  4. Created a layer mask to the texture and using a soft brush took the texture off the flower in focus with a brush at 50% opacity.
  5. kk_enlightened, softlight @30% opacity.
  6. Created a layer mask to the texture and using a soft brush took the texture off the flower in focus with a brush at 50% opacity.
  7. Duplicated the background layer and run the high pass filter, hard light @ 20% opacity.
  8. Flattened the image.
  9. Added a hue & saturation adjustment layer and increased the saturation very slightly.
  10. Text layer and watermark added.

“If you carry your childhood with you, you never become older.” – Tom Stoppard

Well what I did was as follows:

1. Sharpened in Lightroom 5 slightly.

2. Transfered to Photoshop cc

3. KKbrush used colour burn @ 85% opacity.

4. Duplicated the background layer, screen @ 20% opacity

5. Duplicated the background layer, soft light @ 30% opacity

6. kk_OhMy, multiply @ 25%

7. kk_LittleThings, multiply @35% opacity.

8. kk_LittleThings, Darken @ 35% opacity.

The pre shot is here , as you can probably tell I have just brightened it slightly and added the text, I quite liked the golden tones of the straight out of camera shot and just wanted to enhance it slightly.

Today being Tuesday I have edited another photo for Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday, this I chose to use two textures, revolution and plaster squared.

Well what I did was as follows:

  1. Adjusted the white balance in Lightroom 5 to warm the image.
  2. Sharpened the image slightly in Lightroom 5 (20%)
  3. Transfered to Photoshop CC
  4. Duplicated the background layer, high pass filter, hardlight @ 50% opacity.
  5. kk_revolution, multiply @ 25% opacity
  6. Created a Layer mask and reduced the effect of the  texture on the strawberry and the top of the jar, with the brush opacity at 65%.
  7. kk_plaster squared, soft light @ 50% opacity
  8. Created a Layer mask and reduced the effect of the  texture on the strawberry and the top of the jar, with the brush opacity at 65%.

Wash Day Blues

On the Edge

Simplify – 110:365

I am not one for heavy handed textures in general. The weather was not great this day, luckily as I arrived home the sun came out and the golden tones shone warmly on our garden. It made me dash for my camera and get a few shots of the rain drop laden plants.

I am still unable to do rollovers here to do before and after shots, if anyone knows how to do it on WordPress I would love to know?

The theme for today on Photo101 is big and scale, well to a small insect a blade of grass looks big! So using my macro lens and lying on the floor I shot from an ants perspective looking up in the blades, what a difference this can give to something so ordinary.

In blogging101 today is all about personalising our blogs, today I will be looking through a few of my archives for a few more header images so that I can change it, so watch this space!

Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday again, where has this week gone?

Well what I did was as follows:

  1. Cropped the photo slightly in Lightroom 5 (I just find it so much easier straightening and cropping photos in Lightroom!).
  2. Added a little fill light (8%) in Lightroom 5.
  3. Adjusted the clarity slightly (15%) in Lightroom 5.
  4. Adjusted the white balance slightly to add some warmth, in Lightroom 5.
  5. Increased the vibrance slightly (+7) in Lightroom 5.
  6. Decreased the saturation slightly (-14) in Lightroom 5.
  7. Transfered to Photoshop CC
  8. kk_plastersquared, multiply @ 75% opacity
  9. Text layer and watermark added.

In the Pink

Well what I did was as follows:

  1. Sharpened in Lightroom 5 slightly.
  2. Transfered to Photoshop CC 2014
  3. Duplicated the background layer, multiply @ 35% opacity.
  4. kk_ohMy, multiply @ 65% opacity
  5. Created a Layer mask and reduced the effect of the  texture on the centre of the flower.
  6. kk_letgo, soft light @ 38% opacity
  7. Created a Layer mask and reduced the effect of the  texture on the centre of the flower.
  8. Text layer

For now the pre shot is here below (until I sort out the rollover, which I got to work in a test site I set up on blogger, but not here on WordPress…..SIGH)!

BEFORE

Looking at it now, I actually prefer the original, sometimes it is best to leave as is, but as I have spent the time playing with the shot I might as well post!

I would love to know what you think? Which one, before or After?

Kim Klassen’s does a feature and has for many years called Texture Tuesday, I have decided to join in to get better with my Photoshop skills.

Well what I did was as follows:

  1. Adjusted the WB slightly to add some warmth in Lightroom 3.
  2. Added a little fill light (15%) in Lightroom 3.
  3. Adjusted the clarity slightly (15%) in Lightroom 3.
  4. Increased the vibrance slightly (+50) in Lightroom 3.
  5. Increased the saturation slightly (+10) in Lightroom 3.
  6. Transfered to Photoshop CC
  7. kk_reverie, multiply @ 50% opacity
  8. kk_confusion, soft light @ 50%
  9. Flattened the image.
  10. Text layer and watermark added.

The pre straight out of camera shot is below, as you can see the exposure was not perfect, I really should have done an exposure adjustment here in camera.

I would love to know what you think and any tips to improve it I would love to hear 🙂
